Previous versions: sdloco14.zip, sdl14ck.zip (lockup fix),
sdloco20.zip, sdl32_1b.zip (Beta)
Do a search for ZYX for directions to install over your
previous version.
STARDOCK LOCO may not be distributed in any changed or modified format.
:For you, the SySop:
I support my door game 100%. If you have questions, problems, concerns,
feedback, suggestions, or anything, send mail to one of the e_mail
addresses at the end of this file. I will help you to the best of my
abilities to get the door up and running. Average response time to
e_mail is the same day, if not sooner...<G>
Note: This response time is null and void while I toast the world's
health in Ixtapa/Zihuatenejo, Mexico during the weekend of May 16-19, 1996.
Registrations will also not be processed during the 16-19th as I will
have my hands full with cerveza. But, after I return, the usual same
day turn-around on registration orders will resume. Please feel free
to visit me on the beach or for a cold one while I am down there. :)
I'm the blond guy with the flat head (flat top). The stagger is really
a limp from a fairly unknown disease, cerveza-itis. :>
Why Stardock Loco? SDL has been found to be an exciting new role playing
door game for BBS's worldwide. Due to heavy requests for an upgrade for
this game, to include more ANSI screens, this version has been modified
and beautified to include over 70 new ANSI screens. This version is also
named "The Core" as it has more support for IGM's. (In Game Modules). IGM's
are add on's for the game that can be run from within the game to change
or enhance the door. This means that nearly every area in the game, from
the Bank to the Weaponshop to Terran Pete's Slush Bar can be changed by
installing new and exciting 3rd party IGM's. Most areas for you, the Sysop,
are simply installed by unzipping the new IGM into the SDL directory.
Your members can also create scripts for the game with the included
editor. See the packing.lst for files needed. Easy!
To see for yourself what this new version has, run SDL212 /L from DOS. This
runs the game in Local mode.
To help promote your new game and to gain interest
in it with your members, make sure to put BBSLOCO.ANS
in a spot sure to get noticed! There is also a scores
bulletin that is created called SD_LIST.ANS that shows
current high scores for the game!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEW STUFF (Since Version 2.0, 32 beta 1 included this)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
New: sdl.log A log entry is created everytime a player goes into the
game or an IGM that I've created. You may want to delete
this file occasionally as it will get rather large.
New: extra command line options. Run the exe with the -? switch and
all of the new stuff is shown. Add your node, port,
etc.
NEW: Over 60 new ANSI screens! Better menu's. The Colony and 'Roid have
been ANSI'd as well!
FIXED: Some bugs in the script editor with commands, new scripting commands,
Other minor bugs brought to my attention by the British Bug Killer
himself, Dave Woolcock. That guy can find it if it's there!
Thank you, Dave. And, Dave, some I left in there....<G>

New Installation:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Those upgrading from previous versions of SDL see the next section.
* Simply unzip Stardock Loco into the directory of your choice.
Run INSTALL.BAT It will prompt you for changes and default settings
You can also get additional help with the -? or -help switch.
enter SDL212 -? for more information on how to enter the port, address,
and other options on the command line.
* To run Stardock Loco as a Door, use the sdl212.EXE in the following
manner:
sdl212 -d [path to DOOR.SYS,EXITINFO,DORINFO1.DEF,CHAIN.TXT,etc]
Example: sdl212 -d C:\BBS\
Example batch file, for a Wildcat! 4.12 System:
d:
cd\doors\sd
sdl212 -d d:\wildcat\wcwork\node%wcnodeid%\
cd\wildcat
exit
If you need help, check the HELP.FIL for more information. If it still
does not work, don't get frustrated, contact me. I will help you! Also
run sdl212 -? for more help and parameters.
I have information for Maximus/2 and WC!5 installation at the support BBS.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Upgrading from previous versions: ZYX
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1.Unzip the sdl212.zip into that directory.
2.Change your batch files' command lines from:
sdl????? to sdl212 (??? being the previous vers.)
a.If you had the path to your door.sys on the command line,
add -d to it. I.E. sdl212 -d [path]
b.If you used the custom.cfg file, i.e. node1.cfg, etc,
you will need to change your command line to be:
sdl212 /c node1.cfg
c. Check the sdl212 -? for any new options you might like.
3.Copy your old player.lst to the new directory.
Copy global.dat to the new directory.
Copy mail.fil to the new directory.
IMPORTANT!! 4. Run SDPATH.EXE. Tells SDL where the game is located.
This is needed for new IGM support so that IGM's can
be put into seperate directories.
5. Enjoy.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
NIGHTLY MAINTAINANCE OF STARDOCK LOCO:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nightly maintenance is automatically done by Stardock Loco when
the first player of the a new day begins the game. This takes a
only a few moments. Easy, and no fuss with batch files. The
game creates a PLAYER.BAK list at this time, in case any problems
develop during the course of the day.
TO RUN IN LOCAL MODE:
* Type in the following at the Command Line in DOS:
sdl212 -L (upper or lower case)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Stuff You Should Know:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* Make sure to read the PACKING.LST file for info on all the included files
and executables.
* Stardock Loco is a fully functional (when registered) multinode aware,
expandable door game engine. This game is fun and customizable to a
BBS as the Sysop can add interesting and new modules to the game, as they
become available. Current expansion modules are included with this share-
ware version. (The Favrie Colony, and the Asteroid Mission.)
* Expect multiple IGM's from third parties in the future.
* Profile IGM is currently available, and Smush! IGM will be on the
web site soon. Both are freeware. Smush! is an arcade type game that
can also be run as a regular door, or an IGM.
Note: While running in local mode, you will notice that you have to sign
in as you go into parts of the game that are IGM's. The on-line
player does not have this occur to them. The transitions are seamless.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
* Recommended hardware: 486 with 8 megs of ram or better.
Been told that it works on all systems so far. Sounds good. But I still
recommend the above.
I created this package on a 486dx266 with 8 megs of ram running OS/2 Warp
Connect.
It was extensively tested on a multinode Wildcat! 4.1 system running on
a P-133 with 32 megs of ram under Windows 95.
* Stardock Loco supports the following BBS packages:
RemoteAccess, QuickBBS, PC-Board, Maximus, Opus, Wildcat!, WWIV, Spitfire,
SuperBBS, Telegard, RBBS-PC, TriTel, Gap, and most others.
* Stardock Loco supports baud rates of up to 115,200, and supports both
FOSSIL based and built-in serial I/O's. It will auto detect either.
* Supports Local Mode, is DesqView aware, runs under Windows 3.1, '95, Dos
and OS/2.
* Has built in capabilites for the SySop, including chat, and will exit an
inactive user out of the door after a set inactivity time.
* Supports up to 100 players and is multi-node capable. Has exclusive file
awareness, and utilizes EMS memory, as well as file swapping.
See the help.fil for information on IGM's and scripting.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
ABOUT REGISTRATION:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The shareware version contains the full version of the game, except the
players cannot purchase a ship, and cannot complete the game. The key
needed for Stardock Loco is available to registered users.
* To register Stardock Loco, send the following:
- Registration form (ORDER.FRM).
- $15 U.S. (Check or Money Order only please.)
Special Offer: If you have other SySop's of other boards register at
the same time as you, each registration is only $10.00. See ORDER.FRM.
In return you will receive:
- My undying gratitude as a starving student!
- The KEY to run Stardock Loco as a Registered Game,
for your BBS.
- All future releases of this game, fully registered.
- The capability to add up to 30 expansion modules of your choice to the
package. These will become available as time permits. If you look at
the Favrie Colony included, you will note that these are nearly as
large as the game itself!
- A fun game that 3rd parties can create IGM's for and that can be installed
nearly everywhere in the game!
- A game that your users can make unique with their own scripts and missions.
- And possibly I may release the Weapon and Armor editors.
Thanks, have fun!
You are welcome to ask questions about installation even if you aren't
a registered user. I'll help anybody get this game running if I can!
